Vidhu Vinod Chopra studied filmmaking at the Film & Television Institute, Pune. His first documentary, An Encounter With Faces, highlighted the plight of India’s destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978.
Since then, he has directed films like Khamosh, Parinda, 1942 - A Love Story, Kareeb, Mission Kashmir and Eklavya - The Royal Guard. Of these, Parinda and Eklavya - The Royal Guard were nominated as India’s official entries to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category in 1989 and 2007 respectively.
His film company – Vinod Chopra Films – has also produced films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots and has won innumerable National and International recognition.
Forthcoming films that VCF is producing include Rajkumar Hirani's Munna Bhai Chale Amerika, the third of the immensely successful Munna Bhai series; first time director Rajesh Mapuskar's Ferrari Ki Sawaari (Ride in a Ferrari), a heartwarming tale of a young boy's dream of playing cricket at Lords; and Vinod Chopra’s 50th Anniversary, an age old story of love.
